HUNT App Instructions

Downloading the HUNT App

Download the HUNT App for your platform on

  1. Log into the iOS App Store/Google Play Store
  2. Search for onXmaps
  3. Download the HUNT App
  4. Open the app once download is complete
  5. Log into the HUNT App with your email address and password

Note: Your login information from the App/Play store may be different than the login information you created when making your Team HUNT account at HuntingGPSmaps.com


Adjusting App Settings

  1. From the Map view tap the Menu icon in the top menu bar
  2. Tap the Settings Icon
  3. Play with the Settings to see what does and doesn't work for you

Note: Many users turn the Show Current Location toggle off to remove the cross-hairs from the Map View


Identifying Map Features


Saving Maps for Offline Use

Downloaded Saved maps are available when cell coverage is not. To ensure GPS functionality in the backcountry, download your maps for use in areas without cell coverage.

Saving and Downloading Map Layers

Before You Get Started:

  • Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to a power source and high-speed internet connection
  • Make sure you have allotted time for the download to complete. Depending on your connection speed and the amount of map data you want to download, this may take some time
  • Have all the map layers ON that you want to Save for Offline (you can turn them on and off while in the field to clean up the Map View during your hunting and scouting excursions)
  1. Open the HUNT App
  2. Tap the Layers icon
  3. Turn on the Layers you would like to have available offline
  4. Turn on the Basemap you would like available offline
  5. Note: To have multiple Basemaps avaialbe while offline, you will need to do another Map Save with the other Basemap(s) turned on, you will not need to re-save the Map layers.

  6. Tap the Map icon
  7. Zoom in and find the area you want to save
  8. Tap the Quick Access icon
  9. Tap the Save Map icon
  10. Note: You can continue to zoom and pan around in the map to get the map tiles you want

  11. Tap the square tiles you would like to save for offline
  12. Important: The more tiles you select the larger the download and longer it will take to save to your device.

  13. Tap the Save Map button on the bottom menu bar
  14. Name your Save Map Download
  15. Press OK, the download will begin to save directly on your phone or tablet
  16. Note: the download will continue to run in the background

  17. Tap Done once the download is complete, or continue to Save more to your device by repeating the process

Switching to Saved Maps Mode

When using your Saved Maps while out in the backcountry we STRONLY suggest turning your phone to airplane mode while keeping your Location on. This will allow the HUNT App to continue to give you the GPS location data you need while also saving on battery life while in Airplane mode.

  1. Tap the Menu icon
  2. Turn the Save Maps toggle on
  3. Confirm you want to use Save maps, you will see a Save Map centroid in the middle of your Saved Maps area on the Map View

Viewing Saved Maps

  1. Tap the Menu icon
  2. Tap the Saved Maps icon
  3. Select your Saved Map, the App will automatically pan to that area

Deleting Saved Maps

  1. Tap the Menu icon
  2. Tap the Saved Maps icon
  3. Tap Edit on top menu bar
  4. Press the Delete Icon of map you would like to delete and then OK/Delete to confirm

Customizing Layers

One of the best things about the HUNT App is the dynamic and customizable map layers. Customize the Map to meet your HUNTing needs while in the field and offline with your Saved Maps.

Turning Layers On/Off on the Map View

  1. Tap the Layers icon located on the top menu bar from the main Map Screen
  2. Select the Layer thumbnails that you would like active, you will see an orange line around the layer indicating is in on
  3. Select the Layer thumbnail again to turn the layer off

Adjusting Layer Transparency

  1. Tap the Layers icon located on the top menu bar from the main Map Screen
  2. Tap the Caret icon on a layer and then move the slider bar to your desired transparency
  3. Select the Map screen icon to return to Map View

Adding/Removing Layers from the Map

This function is particularly handy if there are map layers you always use that you want to load into the map OR never use and wish to de-clutter the Map.

  1. Tap the Layers icon located on the top menu bar from the main Map Screen
  2. Tap the Add Layer icon
  3. Tap the Caret icon of the Map Layer you wish to add/remove
  4. Push the Add or Remove Layer button to add or remove the layer from the My Layers menu and ultimately the Map

Changing Basemaps

  1. From the Map view tap the Menu icon in the top menu bar
  2. Tap the Basemaps icon
  3. Select the Basemap thumbnail to choose your Basemap
  4. Tap the Map icon on the right of the top menu bar to return to map view

Turning Quick Access Basemaps on/off

You may choose up to three changeable Quick Access Basemaps that show up in the Quick Access Menu. The Map comes pre-loaded with the most commonly used Basemaps. To change the Quick Access Basemaps you must first toggle off a Basemap you don't want to make room for the on you do want.

  1. From the Map view tap the Menu icon in the top menu bar
  2. Tap the Basemaps icon
  3. Note: Basemaps with a lightning bolt are the three Basemaps that will show in your Quick Access menu.

  4. To modify the Basemaps that are shown in the Quick Access menu, tap the Caret icon on the Basemap you wish to add/remove
  5. Toggle the Quick Basemap on or off
  6. Note: Keep in mind to change the Quick Access Basemaps you must first toggle off a Basemap you don't want in order to make room for the one you do want.

Switching between Quick Basemaps

  1. Tap the Quick Access icon located on the bottom menu bar of the map screen
  2. Select the desired Basemap you wish to use
  3. Tap the Map screen to return to viewing the Map

Creating & Saving Tracks

The HUNT App comes with GPS functionality, tracking is one of them! Create tracks of your adventure to see your distance, time and speed while out in the field.

Creating and Stopping a Track

  1. Tap the Activity Track icon located at the bottom of the map screen.
  2. Tap the Start Track button within the Activity Panel
  3. Name your track
  4. Note: Be sure to be specific when naming your track to ensure you can identify it later. For example: 'Deer Hunt 10-20-15'

  5. Tap Save/OK, you are now tracking
  6. Go back to the Activity Panel and Tap Stop Track to stop recording your track

Loading & Viewing Track Data

  1. Tap the Activity Track icon located at the bottom of the map screen.
  2. Tap the Load Track button within the Activity Panel
  3. Select the Track you wish to View on the Map, the track will automatically load to the Map
  4. Note: You can also see the detailed track information within this view

  5. Tap the Caret icon to go directly to the track on the Map View

Deleting Track Data

  1. Tap the Activity Track icon located at the bottom of the map screen.
  2. Tap the Load Track button within the Activity Panel
  3. Tap the Edit text
  4. Push the Delete Icon on the track(s) you wish to delete
  5. Confirm you do want to delete the track by pushing OK
