I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys getting out of the truck and doing some serious hunting. I put a lot of miles in every year, and prior to this map there were times I wasn't 100% sure where exactly boundary lines are.
After using the map just a couple of times more land opened up to me. There were pieces that I didn't even know were there. Again, great product and really handy in an area with a lot of private lands.

Good - hoping for improvement

I bought the sd card from a store in town and discovered that I would not be able to add imagery or other maps nor could I copy the files onto a blank sd card soI could add other maps & imagery. The website does cover the differences between sd card & download versions. I hadn't looked so wasn't aware there was a download version.

The staff at HuntingGPSMaps worked with me and offered to allow me to return the product directly to them and they would apply the amount to a download purchase. 5Star customer service!

What I would like to see in a future product. An expanded model with routable roads & trails. When purchasing a specific state like I did, a model with satellite imagery would be good also. These two ideas would make a better product. Right now for either of those options, the choice is to purchase from Garmin, then deal with multiple map layers, less would be better.

Overall 4Star b/c there is always room for improvement.

I drew a late deer tag in northwest WY and due to the area having large tracts of private land, I downloaded the maps to my Garmin 650t. I have hunted properties that were public that many thought were private with the use of these great maps! It payed off and I harvested one of the largest mule deer taken in the state of Wy in the last 50 years. Thanks for all the valuable information!

A must have for the DIY hunter

Review by Daniel

I have hunted WY for Mule Deer and Pronghorn for the past 5 years and have had multiple encounters with landowners while afield. This download has enabled me to prove, without question, what land I was on as well as what land I had traversed to access my current location. Since some of those areas have been a maze of land segments, I am always glad to have the overlays with my GPS footprints documented. If you hunt public land, especially the smaller segments of public land, this is an absolute must.

Tracking Boundaries and Section Markers

Review by Tim
Rating
Hunting Wyoming lower Big Horn Mountains challenges one to find public land surrounded by private. The fences usually cheat to the public land so you need this tool to know what you have access to. A success we found was when a small Elk herd could be seen on what we believed 'State' land, surrounded by private except from one corner off the top of a rock bluff. We parked the ATV's a 1/4 mile from an anticipated access spot. Our Garmin Oregon 450T loaded with the Wyoming map walked us directly to the Section Marker pounded into the rock ridge. From there we followed a boundary direction into the State Land, an area that would have only been viewed from afar without the Hunting GPS Maps SD Card.

As a frequent non-resident hunter to Co & Wy, I do not want to trespass, These maps keep me from that and give me a chance to find the land owner to get access. These tools that help me be a more responsible and successful hunter are a worthy investment.

Outstanding product

Review by Lewis

My father purchased this product for his upcoming Wyoming Deer/Antelope hunt. The area he drew doesn't have a lot of public land and what it has is dotted with lots of private land. In talking with the local biologist she advised him that locals don't take too kindly to outsiders and will fudge on what's their land to limit access. He tasked me with purchasing, installing, and showing him how to use this program.

What an awesome product. With Garmin's bascamp software and google earth we were able to set a plan of attack for our trip in advance since it's a 16 hour drive each way we can't take the time to scout ahead of the season. This product would be a huge advantage for hunters in any state and especially where I live in California since public land is generally not well marked.

This is a NO BRAINER

Review by Brian
Rating
First...just look down the list of 5 Star reviews.

Second - whoever laid out Wyoming hunt lands had a curious sense of humor. I've hunted 3 different areas, and all three had public private checkerboard. This would have been inaccessible, or unethical at best, without my HUNT Wyoming map. Corner hopping is considered a legal means of transit between private and public land areas, so I was able to flawlessly and legally navigate larger ares of checkerboard.

Third - some of these land areas change permissions over the years, but there is A LOT of old and out of date signage marking fences out there. But when I download an updated map, I am legal and current on where BLM and State lands are based on up to date leasing info. That has given me access to public lands that I wouldn't have had if I merely obeyed posted (and out of date) signage.

This is a no brainer - worth the money, and then some.

Southwest Wyoming is a checker board of public and private lands, which is where these maps shine above anything else. We have gained access to public ground while on County Roads that cut the corner or go through BLM and State lands. One place in particular there is a BLM section that we can now legally access between 2 NO Trespassing signs that are 300 yards apart. The land owner on both sides has even authorized us some more access (travel only) just because of the responsablity we took to know where we were and not impose on their private land. You made that possible.

After loosing my 62s (Highly recomend) after last season I also learned that this customer support is second to none. I replaced it with the Dakota 20 (not bad) and contacted their customer service and ordered the SD card which showed up in a matter of a couple of days.

On behalf of others out there like us, please thank your staff as a whole. This exceeds a job well done.

Allowed harvest of big buck

We were hunting in Wyoming in and around BLM land. We spotted a big buck in a field that was fenced with a "No Trespassing" sign. My Wyoming HuntMap clearly showed the land was BLM. My buddy shot a monster buck. Just to make sure our map was accurate we checked with the local biologist. Yep, it was BLM.

Best product out there

Couldn't have asked for a better product. The Hunting GPS Map products are the best I have ever used. Its great always knowing where you are and the ability to skirt around private property and utilize areas that get less pressured due to people being unsure of where they are. My only wish would have been that the regional maps were available when I purchased, but I do like having the landowner information to inquire about permission on private land. Keep up the great work, looking forward to Georgia maps being available sometime in the future.

I was hunting deer in an area that is plagued with private and public lands intertwining with one another and no fences or postings so that you know where you are located. I spotted a group of mule deer coming my direction and quickly broke out my GPS that has the Hunt Wyoming product download. I was quickly able to know that I was exactly 300 yards from the private land boundary corner which guaranteed my the knowledge of where I could take a shot at a deer in the legal forest area. Nonetheless, I was able to take my deer that night because he walked onto the forest section. Without HuntWY I would have never even risked taking the shot that I ended up taking. HuntWY is the reason I got my deer that season.

Best Investment, Hands Down

Review by TC

I purchased the GPS download in 2012 just prior to my DIY antelope hunt. The unit was a leftover tag and was designated poor access by WY F&G, I was able to kill a nice 65" antelope on a small portion of state land that was overlooked by many hunters. Without a doubt the GPS download was my key to success. I also utilize the download on my Mac to "scout" from home, I was able to pick out a couple access points for this years Mule Deer hunt in the Big Horns. This product will always be on my hunting pack list!

Besides a great product the customer service support is fantastic, I had slight issues with downloading and after a quick phone call to Hunting GPS maps they had me squared away.

I cannot wait to purchase my MT and Midwest Chips next!

No More Guess Work

Review by Stephen

Last year I harvested a very nice 4 point mule deer with a 28" spread that had just crossed the fence from private to public. I had watched the buck for nearly an hour before he crossed, and the rancher was also watching from his pickup to see what I would do. The signage on the fence made it look as if both sides were private, but with my Hunting GPS Maps I was able to make a legal, in your face shot on public land. I used it this year to help my wife get her elk with her bow.
Thanks for a great product with second to none support.

HUNT maps are great for other activities in the field as well. In Wyoming its a sportsman's responsibility to know where they are standing, camping, fishing, rafting, off-roading, geocaching, frog catching, four wheeling, gold panning, kite flying, shrooming, rock hunting, berry picking and any other outdoor fun.
Have been and will be very happy to use this invaluable tool in the field whichever sport my family and I are enjoying.

I am using the Hunting GPS Maps for the state of Wyoming on a Garmin Rino 655T. Wow, what an eye opener to learn that I have been driving by land that I am able to access and hunt but always assumed was private because it was fenced.
Now, when I am out calling coyotes, it there is state or BLM land I do not hesitate to pull off the road, cross the fence and start calling. I can't imagine the gas I have wasted over the years driving by public land that I always thought was private. Thank you!!!

I have hunted in Wyoming my whole life. I always used paper maps. This product allows me to know exactly where I am in relation to boundaries and finding extra little slices of land to hunt. I've been working in Wyoming for the past year, so I've spent a lot of time hunting and riding ATV's. I have just taken up hunting again, after many years. One of my best purchases was the Wyoming Hunt map! I now hunt in an unfamiliar area, which after several years they all seem unfamiliar, but this gps has made it a snap! I couldn't be happier with any product. Knowing where you are, and which hunt area you are in is essential to hunting legally! I love it! I don't get lost, but this is perhaps the best tool, next to my rifle. Should I hunt outside of Wyoming, I will most definitely purchase the chip for that state as well.

WY Maps Very Helpful

Review by Dirk

Wy is a hard state to hunt especially if you are a non resident hunter. Land ownres do not have to post their land and when you trespass they can charge you for trespassing. Also public land is very poorly marked. So it is a very hard state to hunt. With the Hunt Wyoming chip for my GPS i was able to hunt with confidence that i was not trespassing and helped to find new areas to hunt that i would not have found. This is a must for all hunters looking for public land hunting.

Having used this product on 2 elk hunts and 2 antelope hunts I found it to be incredibly useful and an invaluable tool. In a state like Wyoming where land does not need to be marked and the burden to know where your at falls on the hunter, im not sure how you could safely hunt some areas with tons of private property. I used to avoid those areas, now I hunt them a lot. Great concept and product!

My version of the chip has some mistakes in land ownership. A parcel shown as BLM is actually private and caused some trespassing issues for a ranch we manage. I hunt both public land and private land in WY. I found these maps to be an invaluable tool. Even after getting boundary direction from the land owners, I often find that some of the adjoining land is not clearly marked. Using these maps has prevented accidental trespassing fines and also kept my hunting privileges intact by keeping in the good will of the surrounding land owners.
Thanks for making this great product!

  • You will be able to see your position relative to public and private land boundaries. For example, if you are on a BLM section, your current location will show up on a yellow background. If you are on private land, your GPS will show your current location on a white background
  • Wherever you go you have a Statewide Ownership and Topo Map compacted down to a device that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs less than a pound
  • Easily Compare to your Paper Maps to quickly figure out your location on that Paper Map using section lines and property ownership coloring as a reference

We concentrate our efforts to providing the most current and accurate property boundaries and ownership available. These maps are for reference purposes only. Always obey property postings and use common sense to visually verify boundaries. Data is taken from the most current state and national government agency's land survey data. Because of the data compilation methods used by state agencies and onXmaps, the data is subject to error. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content or usability. User assumes all risk of use. These data do not constitute a legal survey; when seeking the definitive description of real property, consult the deed recorded at the local county courthouse or official land records in the respective Federal or State agencies.
