SD vs. Download

2 Ways to Order

1. Pre-Loaded microSD/SD card - Simply plug card into your GPS and go

microSD/SD card Advantages

  • Very Easy to use! Simply plug the memory card into the memory card slot on your GPS and go.
  • No downloading software and messing with the computer.
  • The microSD can also be used to view the map on your computer through Garmin's BaseCamp software (for Advanced Users).  View the map on your computer to help find areas to hunt or scout before you hit the ground.
microSD/SD card Disadvantages
  • Some GPS units don't take microSD or SD cards, so you will have to use the download version.

2. Download Version - View Maps on your Computer for trip planning and scouting, then send maps to your GPS or your own SD card

Download Version Advantages
  • Download version allows you to view the map on the computer then send the map to a GPS. View the map on your computer to help find areas to hunt or scout before you hit the ground.
  • Updating your map is faster. Simply download the new version of the map from our website and install it on your GPS.
Download Version Disadvantages
  • Downloading and installing all the maps and necessary software can be difficult and time-consuming.
  • For Advanced Users only
  • High Speed Internet required for these large file downloads

  • You will be able to see your position relative to public and private land boundaries. For example, if you are on a BLM section, your current location will show up on a yellow background. If you are on private land, your GPS will show your current location on a white background.
  • Wherever you go you have a Statewide Ownership and Topo Map compact down to a device that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs less than a pound.
  • Easily Compare to your Paper Maps to quickly figure out your location on that Paper Map using section lines and property ownership coloring as a reference.
  • The PLAT4GPS map gives you 2 data sources to help you be sure of Property Ownership.
1. Tax Data that shows who owns the land
2. Government Owned Lands data that distinguishes government owned lands from private lands by coloring: [BLM, State , Forest Service , private=white, US Fish & Wildlife , National Parks , Indian Reservations, etc.]

Please Note that these 2 data sources may show property boundaries differently in some cases. In most cases the property boundaries the same or less than 20 ft different, but in some cases the boundaries differ by 100 yards or more.  In any case, the map will give most users a better idea of where the actual property boundary is than by simply using a paper map alone.  By comparing these two data sets and obeying property postings, users can be even more confident that they aren't violating trespassing laws.

The Tax Data is typically more accurate as far as ownership because government tax revenue is at stake. If the Government Owned Lands data shows an area as being government owned, but the Tax Data shows a private land owner's name on the property, trust the Tax Data and assume it is private land until you can verify ownership by talking to a Local Law Enforcement Official or Surveyor.

We concentrate our efforts to providing the most current and accurate property boundaries and ownership available. These maps are for Reference Purposes only. Always obey property postings and use common sense to visually verify boundaries. Data is taken from the most current state and national government agency's land survey data. Because of the data compilation methods used by state agencies and Montana Mapping & GPS, LLC, the data is subject to error. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content or usability. User assumes all risk of use. These data do not constitute a legal survey; when seeking the definitive description of real property, consult the deed recorded at the local county courthouse or official land records in the respective federal or state agencies.

Excellent product

I was able to use the hunting gps maps for the first time this past weekend in California. I was very happy with the performance and accuracy. I was not 100% sure where I was located in the zone and according to the map I was right on the border of the neighboring zone to which I did not have a tag. Thanks for great product and i will continue to use them on all my future hunts. (Posted on 9/24/12)
